Sodium borate, also known as borax, is a white crystalline powder with formula Na2B4O7·10H2O (decahydrate) and molecular weight 381.37 g/mol. Density 1.73 g/cm³, melting point 75°C (loses water), highly soluble in water forming alkaline solutions, and sourced from natural minerals or synthesis.

Used in glass and ceramics as flux, detergents for cleaning, fertilizers for boron supply, pharmaceuticals as antiseptic, and in cosmetics for pH adjustment.

Irritates eyes and skin; reproductive toxins may impair fertility. Avoid ingestion causing gastrointestinal issues; non-combustible but decomposes releasing boron oxides. Hazard Class 8; use PPE.

In 25kg bags or drums; store at 2-8°C; rinse triply for recycling or disposal in landfills.
