Di-tert-Butyl Peroxide
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Di-tert-Butyl Peroxide (DTBP) is a highly stable Organic Peroxide used as an initiator and cross-linking agent. It is a clear, colorless liquid that acts as an efficient source of free radicals for high-temperature chemical processes.
In the plastics industry, it is a primary Technical Grade initiator for the polymerization of ethylene and styrene. It ensures controlled reaction rates and the production of polymers with consistent molecular weight and properties.
In the oil and gas sector, DTBP is utilized as a cetane improver for diesel fuels and as a cross-linking agent in rubber manufacturing. Its high decomposition temperature makes it suitable for processes requiring thermal stability until activation.
APPLICATIONS
• Polymerization Initiator: Essential for the manufacture of LDPE and other high-volume thermoplastic resins.
• Rubber Cross-linking: Used to improve the mechanical strength and heat resistance of silicone and EPDM rubbers.
• Fuel Additive: Enhances the ignition quality of diesel fuels by increasing the cetane number in specialty blends
SAFETY & RISKS
Classified as an Organic Peroxide (Type E) and Flammable Liquid. It is an Oxidizer and can explode under confinement. Mandatory use of Blast Shielding, Non-Sparking Tools, and PPE.
