Tannic acid is a light yellow to tan amorphous powder with formula C76H52O46 (approximate) and molecular weight 1701.2 g/mol. It has a weak acidic taste, soluble in water (forming astringent solutions), alcohols, and glycerol, insoluble in hydrocarbons. Hygroscopic, decomposes above 200°C; extracted from plant galls or synthesized.

Tannic Acid

Used in food as a flavoring agent, clarifying agent in wine/beer, and sequestrant; in pharmaceuticals as an astringent and antidiarrheal; in tanning leather, dyes, and inks; in cosmetics for skin protection; and in water treatment for purification.

Irritates eyes, skin, and mucous membranes; may cause respiratory issues if inhaled. Low acute toxicity but prolonged exposure leads to tissue damage; avoid strong oxidizers. Stable under ambient but light-sensitive; Hazard Class not specified, use PPE and ventilation.

In 25kg fiber drums or bags with liners; store in cool, dry, ventilated areas away from light.
