Tetrahydrothiophene, also known as thiolane or thiophane, is a colorless transparent volatile liquid with the formula C4H8S and molecular weight 88.17 g/mol. It has a strong unpleasant odor detectable at 0.01 ppm, density of about 1.0 g/cm³, boiling point 119°C, melting point -96°C, and flash point 12°C. Insoluble in water but miscible in ethanol, ether, benzene, and acetone, it is a cyclic thioalkane and saturated analog of thiophene, stable under normal conditions but flammable.

Used as a solvent in chemical processes, fuel gas odorant for safety in underground mines and natural gas detection, and organocatalyst in reactions like those between enynediones and benzoic acid; reagent for synthesis of epoxides and derivatives; in fire safety stench warning systems and pharmaceutical intermediates.

Highly flammable liquid (H225), acute toxicity by ingestion/inhalation/skin (H302, H312, H332), skin/eye irritation (H315, H319), aquatic toxicity (H402, H412); incompatible with acids, diazo/azo compounds, halocarbons, isocyanates, aldehydes, alkali metals, nitrides, hydrides—generates heat/hydrogen gas; chronic exposure may cause organ damage.

Packaged in 200L steel drums with epoxy lining for corrosion resistance, or 1L glass bottles for lab use, ensuring vapor-tight seals as per ChemicalBook standards.
