Cyclopentane is a high-purity alicyclic hydrocarbon utilized primarily as a sustainable blowing agent in the production of polyurethane and polyisocyanurate foams. Its excellent thermal insulation properties and zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) make it a preferred alternative to HCFCs and HFCs.

This technical grade solvent is characterized by high volatility and a low boiling point, ensuring efficient expansion during the polymerization process. It provides superior structural integrity and uniform cell structure in rigid foam applications across the refrigeration and construction sectors.

As a non-polar solvent, it is also employed in the manufacture of synthetic resins and specialized rubber adhesives. Its chemical stability and compatibility with diverse polymer matrices offer manufacturers a versatile solution for high-performance material engineering.

Cyclopentane

  • Rigid Polyurethane Foams: Acts as the primary physical blowing agent for insulation used in domestic appliances like refrigerators and freezers to optimize energy efficiency.
  • Construction Insulation Panels: Employed in the production of SIPs and sandwich panels to enhance thermal resistance and structural R-values in commercial buildings.
  • Solvent for Synthetic Rubber: Used as a high-efficiency processing solvent in the synthesis of specialized elastomers and high-bond-strength industrial adhesives.

Cyclopentane is classified as a Highly Flammable Liquid and Vapor. It may cause drowsiness or dizziness if inhaled and is harmful to aquatic life with long-lasting effects. Handling requires explosion-proof equipment, and personnel must use nitrile gloves, safety goggles, and antistatic protective clothing.
