Dicamba (3,6-dichloro-2-methoxybenzoic acid) is an off-white to tan crystalline solid with formula C8H6Cl2O3 and molecular weight 221.04 g/mol. Technical grade purity ≥98%. Density 1.57 g/cm³, melting point 114–116 °C, vapour pressure 4.5 mPa at 20 °C. Moderately soluble in water (6.5 g/L at 25 °C, pH-dependent), highly soluble in polar organics. It is a benzoic-acid systemic herbicide that acts as a synthetic auxin, rapidly absorbed by leaves and roots and translocated throughout the plant.

Dicamba

Selective post-emergence control of annual and perennial broad-leaved weeds in cereals, maize, sorghum, sugarcane, turf, pastures, rangeland, non-crop, and forestry. Widely used on dicamba-tolerant (DT) soybean, cotton, and maize. Often tank-mixed with glyphosate, 2,4-D, or other herbicides for resistance management and broader spectrum.

Acute toxicity low (LD50 oral rat >2000 mg/kg); moderate eye irritant (H319), skin sensitiser possible. Chronic concerns include potential endocrine disruption and developmental toxicity (EPA/EU review ongoing). Low bioaccumulation, moderate aquatic toxicity (fish LC50 ~100 mg/L). Stable under normal conditions but hydrolyses in strong alkali. Use PPE (gloves, goggles, respirator if dusty); ventilate; avoid drift to sensitive crops.

Technical grade supplied in 25 kg or 500 kg multi-wall paper bags or fiber drums with PE liners; formulated products in 10–20 L HDPE coex jerricans or 200 L drums; store cool, dry, well-ventilated, away from food/feed.
