DL-Methionine is a white crystalline powder with formula C5H11NO2S and molecular weight 149.21 g/mol. Density 1.34 g/cm³, melting point 281°C (decomposes), soluble in water (3.4 g/100mL at 25°C), slightly soluble in ethanol; essential amino acid, obtained by chemical synthesis, used in nutrition.
