Methlacrylic Acid
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Methlacrylic Acid is a Technical Grade unsaturated monocarboxylic acid used as a versatile monomer in polymer science. It is a colorless, viscous liquid with a pungent, acrid odor and high chemical reactivity.
The compound is essential for the production of Methacrylate Esters and specialty resins used in adhesives and coatings. It enhances the adhesion, hardness, and weatherability of final polymer products.
This inhibited liquid is usually stabilized with MEHQ to prevent spontaneous polymerization during transport. It is a fundamental process chemical for the manufacturing of plexiglass, ion-exchange resins, and dental materials.
APPLICATIONS
- Acrylic Resins: Primary monomer for the production of paints, varnishes, and high-gloss textile finishes.
- Adhesive Formulations: Used in the synthesis of anaerobic and cyanoacrylate adhesives for structural bonding.
- Water Treatment Polymers: Precursor for poly-methacrylic acid used as a dispersant and scale inhibitor.
SAFETY & RISKS
Classified as Corrosive (Category 1A) and Acute Toxic (Category 3). Causes severe skin burns. Handle with Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, Chemical Suits, and Butyl Gloves.
