Polystyrene
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Polystyrene (PS) is a versatile, Commodity Thermoplastic available in two primary forms: General Purpose (GPPS) and High Impact (HIPS). It is supplied in Extrusion and Injection Grades with excellent processability and low cost.
GPPS offers exceptional Optical Transparency and rigidity, while HIPS is modified with rubber to provide enhanced toughness and impact resistance. Both forms are characterized by high electrical insulation properties and low moisture absorption.
The polymer’s ease of fabrication and dimensional stability make it a staple in the global Packaging and Insulation industries. It is highly resistant to many acids and bases, providing long-term durability in various industrial environments.
APPLICATIONS
- Food Packaging: Used for disposable cutlery, dairy containers, and clear trays due to its FDA-compliant safety and clarity.
- Construction Insulation: Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is a critical material for thermal insulation boards in energy-efficient building projects.
- Consumer Electronics: Utilized for housing units, television frames, and interior components where rigid structural support is required.
SAFETY & RISKS
Considered non-hazardous in solid form. Combustible Solid that must be kept away from open flames. Use PPE such as Safety Glasses and Protective Gloves when handling hot melt.
