Potassium Ferrocyanide
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Potassium Ferrocyanide, also known as yellow prussiate of potash, is a high-purity Food Grade (E536) salt used as an anti-caking agent. It is characterized by its lemon-yellow crystalline structure and excellent stability, ensuring powdered food products remain free-flowing and clump-free.
In industrial sectors, it is utilized as a Technical Grade reagent for the refinement and separation of metallic ores. Despite containing cyanide groups, the compound is extremely stable and does not release toxic cyanide under normal handling conditions or standard processing environments.
The product is highly soluble in water and acts as a critical precursor for the manufacturing of pigments like Prussian Blue. Its role as a mild reducing agent makes it valuable in chemical synthesis and metal surface treatments where controlled oxidation is required.
APPLICATIONS
- Anti-Caking Agent: Used in table salt and road salt to prevent moisture absorption and lumping during storage.
- Mineral Flotation: Serves as a depressant in the mining industry for the separation of copper from molybdenum ores.
- Pigment Production: A primary raw material for the production of high-quality blue iron pigments used in inks and paints.
SAFETY & RISKS
Classified as non-toxic for general consumption in regulated amounts. Contact with strong acids must be avoided as it can release Toxic Hydrogen Cyanide Gas. Use safety goggles and gloves to prevent irritation from dust.
