Tartaric acid is a white crystalline powder with formula C4H6O6 and molecular weight 150.09 g/mol. It has density 1.76 g/cm³, melting point 170-172°C, highly soluble in water (139 g/100mL), with sour taste; occurs naturally in grapes, exists as D-, L-, and meso- forms.

Tartaric Acid

Used as acidifier in beverages and food (e.g., wine, candies); in pharmaceuticals as excipient and chelator; in metal cleaning and polishing; in cosmetics for pH adjustment; and in dyeing as mordant.

Causes serious eye damage and skin irritation; avoid breathing dust or contact. Muscle toxin in high doses leading to paralysis; incompatible with bases or metals. Hazard Class 8; use protective gloves and eye protection.

In 25kg bags or drums; store in tightly closed containers in cool, dry places.
