Vinyl Pyrrolidone (NVP)
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
N-Vinyl-2-Pyrrolidone (NVP) is a high-reactivity Monomer Grade chemical used as the primary building block for Polyvinyl Pyrrolidone (PVP). With 99.7% min purity, it is critical for producing polymers used in pharmaceutical and cosmetic applications.
This clear, yellowish liquid polymerizes readily in the presence of heat or catalysts. It is valued for its ability to enhance the solubility and film-forming properties of polymers used in hair sprays, adhesive gels, and medicine tablet binders.
In industrial applications, NVP is used in UV-cured inks and coatings to improve adhesion and hardness. Its ability to undergo co-polymerization with various acrylic monomers makes it a versatile tool for advanced material science.
APPLICATIONS
- PVP Production: Essential monomer for manufacturing PVP used in medicine binders and hair styling products.
- UV-Cure Systems: Used as a reactive diluent in UV-curable coatings, inks, and adhesives to enhance curing speed.
- Industrial Adhesives: Incorporated into polymer chains to improve moisture resistance and bonding strength on plastic substrates.
SAFETY & RISKS
Classified as Acute Tox 4, Eye Dam 1, and Carc 2. Hazardous monomer; handle using Full PPE, Vapor Respirators, and in Closed Systems.
