Cholecalciferol, also known as vitamin D3, is a white to off-white crystalline powder with the formula C27H44O and molecular weight 384.64 g/mol. It has a density of 0.96 g/cm³, melting point 83-86°C, boiling point 496.4°C at 760 mmHg, flash point 214.2°C, and refractive index 1.52. Insoluble in water, soluble in organic solvents like ethanol and acetone, it is light-sensitive, produced by UV irradiation of 7-dehydrocholesterol from lanolin or fish oil.

Vitamin D3 Cholecalciferol

Used as a supplement for vitamin D deficiency and bone health; in food fortification for dairy and juices; in pharmaceuticals for osteoporosis; in cosmetics for anti-aging; in animal feed for poultry and livestock; in research for endocrine studies.

Toxic in excess leading to hypercalcemia and soft tissue calcification; irritates eyes and skin. Strong oxidizer in some forms; decomposes to toxic fumes. Hazard Class 6.1; use PPE, avoid inhalation; monitor kidney function in prolonged use.

Supplied in 25kg cardboard boxes with inner aluminum bags or PE liners for light protection; store sealed in cool, dry areas per Sigma-Aldrich SDS.
