Vinylidene Fluoride
Vinylidene fluoride, also known as 1,1-difluoroethylene, is a colorless flammable gas with formula CH2=CF2 and molecular weight 64.03 g/mol. Density 0.617 g/cm³ (liquid), boiling point -85.7°C, melting point -144°C, flash point -78°C; slightly soluble in water, soluble in organics; monomer for polymers.
Vinylidene Fluoride
Used as monomer for PVDF polymers in coatings, membranes, and batteries; in refrigerants and propellants; in chemical synthesis for fluorinated compounds; in electronics for insulators; in medical devices for biocompatible materials.
Highly flammable gas, forms explosive mixtures with air; toxic by inhalation, irritates eyes and respiratory tract. Asphyxiant in high concentrations; avoid heat and oxidizers. Hazard Class 2.1; use PPE, ventilate, no ignition sources.
Supplied in pressurized cylinders or tanks with safety valves; store in well-ventilated areas away from heat per Sigma-Aldrich SDS.
