Polysorbate 80, derived from sorbitan monooleate ethoxylated with 20 moles of ethylene oxide, is an amber-colored oily liquid with HLB 15, fully miscible in water and most organic solvents. It provides superior solubilizing capabilities for hydrophobic compounds, maintaining stability in electrolyte-rich solutions and over a broad pH range from 3 to 11.

Polysorbate 80

Critical for solubilizing vitamins in oral supplements; in intravenous pharmaceuticals for micelle formation; in hair care products for detangling; in vaccine adjuvants for enhanced delivery; and in agricultural sprays as wetting agents improving pesticide efficacy on foliage.

FDA-approved with potential for allergic responses in individuals sensitive to oleic acid derivatives; high doses linked to minor digestive issues. Monitor for ethylene oxide residues per regulatory limits; utilize enclosed systems for handling to reduce vapor exposure and ensure compliance with occupational exposure thresholds.

Contained in 200 liter high-density polyethylene totes with tamper-proof seals. Store in ventilated chemical bays, segregated from incompatible substances like peroxides to prevent unintended reactions.
