Hydroxypropyl Cellulose
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Hydroxypropyl Cellulose (HPC) is a non-ionic cellulose ether characterized by its dual solubility in water and organic solvents. This Pharmaceutical Grade polymer is an essential binder for tablet production, providing exceptional mechanical strength and flexibility.
It acts as a high-efficiency Technical Grade thickener and film-former in topical gels and cosmetic emulsions. Its thermoplastic properties allow for use in specialized melt-extrusion processes for advanced drug delivery systems.
The product is valued for its surface activity, which aids in stabilizing emulsions and foams in personal care formulations. It provides a smooth, non-tacky feel and creates clear, tough protective films upon drying.
APPLICATIONS
- Tablet Binding: Used in dry and wet granulation to ensure high tablet hardness and low friability in solid dosage forms.
- Film Coating: Applied as a moisture barrier and aesthetic coating for tablets, offering high flexibility and crack resistance.
- Ophthalmic Lubrication: Functions as a thickening agent in artificial tears to increase ocular residence time and patient comfort.
SAFETY & RISKS
Chemically inert and non-toxic. Fine dust may form explosive mixtures with air. Use PPE including Goggles and Safety Gloves. Hazard Classifications: Not a hazardous substance.
