Propylene Glycol Monostearate is a high-performance lipophilic emulsifier and stabilizer produced from the esterification of propylene glycol and stearic acid. It is critical for creating stable alpha-crystalline gels that provide structure and texture to aerated food and cosmetic systems.

Available in high-purity Food Grade and Cosmetic Grade specifications, this waxy solid exhibits excellent aerating properties and foam stability. It functions effectively as a co-emulsifier, often paired with monoglycerides to enhance the functionality of industrial formulations.

This versatile additive significantly prolongs shelf life and improves volume in bakery applications and whipped toppings. It ensures uniform consistency, prevents phase separation, and acts as a thickening agent in creams and lotions.

Propylene Glycol Monostearate

  • Bakery & Confectionery: Used as an aerating agent in cake batters and sponge cakes to improve volume, crumb structure, and shelf-life stability.
  • Whipped Toppings: Acts as a stabilizer to maintain foam stiffness and prevent weeping in non-dairy whipped creams and dessert toppings.
  • Cosmetic Formulations: Functions as an emollient, pearlescent agent, and thickener in lotions, creams, and hair care products to improve tactile feel.
  •  Margarine & Shortenings: Utilized to control fat crystallization and prevent oil separation during storage and processing.

While generally recognized as safe (GRAS) for intended uses, standard industrial hygiene is required. Use safety goggles and protective gloves to avoid mechanical irritation. Ensure proper ventilation to manage combustible dust hazards if processing the material in powder form.
