Sialic acid, primarily N-acetylneuraminic acid (C11H19NO9), is a white powder with molecular weight 309.27 g/mol. Soluble in water, it has a melting point around 185°C (decomposes) and is biosynthesized via aldolase enzymes. Odorless, stable, and found naturally in animals and microbes.
