Sodium Carbonate
Sodium carbonate, or soda ash, is a white, hygroscopic powder or granules with formula Na2CO3 and molecular weight 105.99 g/mol. Density 2.54 g/cm³ (anhydrous), melting point 851°C, decomposes before boiling. Soluble in water (215 g/L at 20°C), forming alkaline solutions pH 11-12; insoluble in organics. Absorbs moisture and CO2 from air. Exists as anhydrous, monohydrate, or decahydrate; produced via Solvay process from NaCl and limestone.
Sodium Carbonate
In glass production, detergents, water softening, pH control in mining, effervescent tablets, and food as acidity regulator.
Irritates eyes; mildly toxic if ingested. GRAS by FDA/EPA; avoid acids to prevent CO2 release. Not hazardous for transport.
In 25-50kg bags or bulk supersacks. Store dry to avoid caking.
