Sodium Isobutyl Xanthate
Sodium isobutyl xanthate (SIBX) is a pale yellow to yellowish powder or pellet with pungent odor, formula C5H9NaOS2, molecular weight 172.24 g/mol. Density around 1.1 g/cm³, decomposes above 150°C; freely soluble in water (up to 300 g/L), forms insoluble metal complexes. pH of 1% solution 7-9; produced by reacting isobutanol with CS2 and NaOH. Acts as a flotation collector for sulfide minerals.
Sodium Isobutyl Xanthate
Primarily a collector in froth flotation for nonferrous sulfides like copper, lead, zinc, and pyrites; effective in natural and precious metal recovery circuits.
Irritates skin/eyes; inhalation causes respiratory issues. Combustible; incompatible with oxidizers. UN3342, Hazard Class 4.2; wear PPE, ventilate.
In 25kg bags or 850kg wooden boxes with liners. Store dry and cool to prevent decomposition.
