Succinic acid, also known as butanedioic acid, is a white crystalline powder with formula C4H6O4 and molecular weight 118.09 g/mol. It has a density of 1.56 g/cm³, melting point 185-187°C, and is soluble in water (83 g/L at 25°C). Odorless with acidic taste, hygroscopic, and produced via fermentation or synthesis.
Succinic Acid
Used as a pH adjuster in food, excipient in pharmaceuticals, precursor in chemicals, and in biodegradable plastics; also in water treatment and dyes.
GRAS status; corrosive to eyes and skin, causes burns. Avoid strong oxidizers; use PPE and ventilation; low aquatic toxicity.
In 25kg bags or drums with PE liners; store in cool, dry places; rinse for recycling or disposal punctured in landfills.
