Bromoform is a dense, non-flammable halogenated hydrocarbon used primarily as a laboratory reagent and industrial solvent. Our Technical Grade liquid is characterized by its exceptionally high density, making it a standard for mineral separation.

In geological research, it is the preferred medium for heavy liquid separation, allowing for the precise classification of minerals based on specific gravity. Its unique physical properties also lend it utility in specialized industrial chemical synthesis.

Historically used as a sedative, its current pharmaceutical application is limited to its role as a synthesis intermediate for more complex brominated molecules. It is stabilized to prevent degradation and maintain high purity during storage.

Bromoform
  • Mineral Analysis: Used in the mining industry to separate heavy minerals like garnets and zircons from lighter silicate sands.
  • Chemical Feedstock: Acts as a brominating agent in the production of specialized organic intermediates.
  • Laboratory Solvent: Utilized in high-density gradient centrifugation and refractive index testing.

Classified as Toxic if Inhaled and Harmful if Swallowed. Use Vapor Respirators, Chemical Goggles, and Nitrile Gloves in a Fume Hood.
