Calcium chloride (CAS 10043-52-4) is a white to gray hygroscopic inorganic salt of calcium and chloride that dissolves readily in water and releases heat as it does so, and it is supplied for de-icing, dust control, concrete acceleration, refrigeration brines and food processing as a firming agent. It is highly soluble and exothermic in water.
