Density 1.18 g/cm³ (37% solution), boiling point 84°C (20%), melting point -114°C, vapor pressure 190 mmHg at 25°C; highly soluble in water, pungent odor, produced by burning hydrogen in chlorine or as byproduct; strong mineral acid.
