Hydrochloric acid is a colorless fuming liquid with formula HCl and molecular weight 36.46 g/mol. Density 1.18 g/cm³ (37% solution), boiling point 84°C (20%), melting point -114°C, vapor pressure 190 mmHg at 25°C; highly soluble in water, pungent odor, produced by burning hydrogen in chlorine or as byproduct; strong mineral acid.

Hydrochloric Acid

Used in steel pickling for rust removal; pH control in water treatment; food additive for acidification; pharmaceuticals for synthesis; cleaning in household products; in leather processing.

Highly corrosive, causes severe burns to skin/eyes/lungs; toxic vapors. Reacts with metals releasing hydrogen; non-flammable. Hazard Class 8; use PPE, ventilate; avoid bases.

Supplied in 200L plastic drums or glass bottles; store in ventilated areas per Sigma-Aldrich specs.
