Sorbitan Tristearate
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Sorbitan Tristearate (Span 65) is a non-ionic surfactant and emulsifier produced by the esterification of sorbitol with stearic acid. It is typically supplied as a tan-colored waxy solid.
This Food Grade/Technical Grade material is a powerful W/O (water-in-oil) emulsifier. It is particularly valued in the food industry for its ability to prevent fat bloom in chocolate and cocoa butter products.
In cosmetics, it provides structural stability to sticks and thick creams. It is lipophilic (low HLB value), making it an ideal co-emulsifier for creating stable, rich emulsions in various sectors.
APPLICATIONS
- Confectionery: Used in chocolate and compound coatings to control fat crystallization and maintain gloss.
- Cosmetics: Acts as an emulsifier and thickener in lipsticks, deodorants, and heavy protective creams.
- Industrial Coatings: Used as an additive to control the rheology and stability of oil-based paints.
SAFETY & RISKS
Generally recognized as safe (GRAS). Low toxicity; use safety glasses to prevent mechanical irritation from solid particles during handling.
