Stearic acid, also known as octadecanoic acid, is a white waxy solid with formula C18H36O2 and molecular weight 284.48 g/mol. It has a density of 0.94 g/cm³, melting point 69-70°C, and is insoluble in water but soluble in organics like ethanol. Derived from animal or vegetable fats, it is non-hygroscopic, odorless or faintly fatty, and stable under ambient conditions.
