Acetic anhydride [(CH₃CO)₂O] is a reactive acetylating agent and important industrial intermediate. It is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor and strong dehydrating properties.

Acetic Anhydride

Used in cellulose acetate, pharmaceuticals (e.g., aspirin), and acylation reactions for fine chemical synthesis. It also finds use in dyes and fragrance production.

Corrosive and reacts violently with water, alcohols, and bases; release of acetic acid vapors can cause irritation. Ensure dry, closed systems and fume extraction.

Supplied in inhibited form within steel drums or ISO tanks under nitrogen. Store below 30 °C away from heat and moisture.
