R-Alpha-Lipoic Acid is the naturally occurring enantiomer of alpha-lipoic acid, a vitamin-like organosulfur compound with formula C₈H₁₄O₂S₂ and molecular weight 206.33 g/mol. It presents as a light yellow to yellow crystalline solid, melting point 46–48 °C, density approximately 1.218 g/cm³, with limited water solubility and solubility in organic solvents.

As the biologically active form of lipoic acid, R-ALA functions as a cofactor in mitochondrial enzyme complexes and is used as a nutraceutical ingredient in food-grade applications. CAS 1200-22-2; also known as (+)-thioctic acid and α-(+)-lipoic acid.
