Sodium chlorate is a white, odorless, hygroscopic crystalline solid with formula NaClO3 and molecular weight 106.44 g/mol. Density 2.49 g/cm³, melting point 248°C, decomposes above 300°C releasing oxygen. Highly soluble in water (790 g/L at 0°C), slightly in alcohols; pH neutral. Strong oxidizer; produced electrolytically from NaCl. Forms dihydrate or tetrahydrate in humid conditions.

Applications
