Benfotiamine (CAS 22457-89-2), also known as benzoylthiamine monophosphate, is a lipid-soluble S-acyl derivative of thiamine (Vitamin B1) that appears as a white to off-white crystalline solid and is supplied in food grade and pharma grade for nutraceutical and food applications. It presents as a white to off-white crystalline solid, density 1.444 g/cm³, melting point 165 °C (decomp.), with greater membrane permeability than water-soluble thiamine salts.
As a Vitamin B1 derivative, benfotiamine supports authorised EU health claims (Reg. 432/2012) relating to normal energy-yielding metabolism, nervous system function, cardiac function, and psychological function.
