Thulium Oxide (Tm₂O₃; MW 385.87 g/mol), also known as thulia or dithulium trioxide, is a white to slightly beige fine powder or sintered lump with a density of 8.88 g/cm³ and a melting point of 2425 °C. It is insoluble in water but slightly soluble in strong acids. SoleChem supplies this material in Technical and Electronic grades, commercially available at purities of Tm₂O₃/TREO ≥ 99.9 % with TREO ≥ 99 %.

Tm₂O₃ is a heavy rare earth oxide valued for its role as a laser-active medium, its capacity to generate portable X-ray emission following neutron activation, and its function as a green-emitting phosphor host in luminescent systems. Its high density and thermal stability make it suitable for demanding electronic and optical applications.

Thulium Oxide

Applications
  • Electronics & Solar PV: Employed as a dopant and functional additive in solid-state laser gain media, where thulium ions provide emission in the ~2 µm wavelength range for fibre and bulk laser systems.
  • Electronics & Solar PV: Used as a phosphor component in fluorescent lamps and display panels, contributing green luminescence under UV excitation.
  • Electronics & Solar PV: Serves as a portable X-ray source material; neutron-irradiated Tm₂O₃ targets emit hard X-radiation suitable for compact radiographic applications.
  • Home Care & Industrial Cleaning: Incorporated into specialty glass formulations and ceramic glazes as a rare earth additive to modify refractive and optical transmission properties.
