Lutetium Oxide (Lu₂O₃; MW 397.93 g/mol) is a dense white powder belonging to the rare earth oxide series, with a melting point of 2 450 °C and a density of 7.928 g/cm³. It is insoluble in water and commercially available at purities of Lu₂O₃/TREO ≥ 99.99 % (TREO ≥ 99 %).
As the heaviest stable lanthanide oxide, it is valued for its high density, thermal stability, and luminescent host properties. These characteristics make it a key precursor in scintillator crystal production, solid-state laser materials, and advanced electronic applications requiring high-purity rare earth inputs.
Lutetium Oxide
Applications
- Electronics & Solar PV: Used as a high-purity dopant and dielectric material in thin-film deposition and advanced semiconductor processing.
- Electronics & Solar PV: Serves as a sintering aid and host matrix in the fabrication of lutetium-based scintillator crystals (LSO/LYSO) for PET imaging detectors.
- Pharma & Healthcare: Functions as a precursor for lutetium-based compounds used in radiopharmaceutical synthesis and nuclear medicine research.
- Pharma & Healthcare: Applied in the production of laser gain media, including Nd:Lu₂O₃ and Yb:Lu₂O₃ solid-state laser ceramics.
- Electronics & Solar PV: Employed as a catalyst component and stabiliser in high-temperature catalytic systems requiring rare earth oxide supports.
