Vanadyl sulfate, also known as vanadium(IV) oxide sulfate, is a blue crystalline solid or powder with the formula VOSO4·xH2O (typically pentahydrate, molecular weight 253.08 g/mol). It has a density of 2.5 g/cm³, melting point around 105°C (decomposes), and is highly soluble in water (forming acidic solutions), insoluble in ethanol. Hygroscopic, it absorbs moisture from air and is produced by reducing vanadium pentoxide with sulfur dioxide.

Applications
Used as a mordant in textile dyeing, catalyst in chemical synthesis, reducing agent in organic reactions, colorant in glass and ceramics production, and nutritional supplement for insulin-mimetic effects in diabetes management; also in batteries and water treatment processes.
Safety & Risks
Toxic by ingestion and inhalation, causes irritation to eyes, skin, and respiratory tract; may lead to chronic bronchitis or kidney damage upon prolonged exposure. Avoid strong oxidizers; non-flammable but decomposes releasing sulfur oxides. Hazard Class 6.1; use PPE and ventilate areas.
Packaging
Typically in 25kg or 50kg polypropylene bags with inner polyethylene liners for moisture protection; store tightly closed in cool, well-ventilated places.
