Vitamin E Delta-Tocopherol (CAS 119-13-1; EC 204-299-0) is a clear yellow to brownish viscous liquid with formula C₂₇H₄₆O₂ and molecular weight 402.65 g/mol. Density approximately 0.993 g/cm³, boiling point ~465°C, flash point >93°C, refractive index 1.448; lipophilic with log P ~10.5, practically insoluble in water.
A naturally occurring member of the vitamin E family, delta-tocopherol is sourced from vegetable oils and functions as a lipid-phase antioxidant. It is authorised in the EU as food additive E309 and exhibits strong antioxidant activity in lipid matrices, inhibiting oxidative degradation in food, feed, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical formulations.
