2-Bromo-2-Nitropropane-1,3-Diol (CAS 52-51-7), also known as Bronopol or BNPD, is a Technical Grade antimicrobial agent and brominated nitro diol that appears as an off-white crystalline powder with broad-spectrum activity against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, used to control microbial growth in industrial water systems, household detergents and oilfield injection fluids. This biocide is highly effective in controlling microbial growth in industrial water systems, such as cooling towers and paper mills. It is favored for its rapid kill rate and effectiveness in both acidic and slightly alkaline environments. In the consumer goods sector, Bronopol is used as a preservative in household detergents and industrial cleaning solutions. It prevents spoilage and maintains the integrity of liquid products during storage and transport in challenging climates.
