Chlorine Dioxide (CAS 10049-04-4) is an oxidizing biocide and disinfectant that appears as an orange-green gas, is unstable in concentrated form, and is therefore generated on-site or supplied as stabilized solutions or precursor kits for potable water disinfection, food processing and pulp bleaching. Unlike chlorine, ClO2 does not form harmful chlorinated by-products like THMs. It remains a powerful broad-spectrum antimicrobial across a wide pH range, effectively eliminating bacteria, viruses, and algae. This Technical Grade oxidant is widely used for its ability to penetrate biofilms in water systems. It is recognized for its high selectivity , reacting primarily with organic contaminants rather than the water itself.

Applications
  • Potable Water Treatment: Disinfection of municipal water supplies without affecting taste or odor.
  • Food Processing: Used for washing fruits and vegetables and disinfecting food-contact surfaces.
  • Pulp Bleaching: Primary agent in Elemental Chlorine-Free (ECF) bleaching of wood pulp for paper.
Safety & Risks

Strong oxidant; classified as Acute Toxicity 2 (Inhalation) and Skin Corrosion 1B. Use respirators and chemical-resistant suits. Highly explosive as a concentrated gas.

Packaging

Two-part precursor kits (Sodium Chlorite/Acid) or stabilized aqueous solutions in specialized containers.
