Hydrochloric Acid (CAS 7647-01-0) is a strong mineral acid supplied as a colorless fuming liquid, the aqueous form of hydrogen chloride, and it is used in steel pickling for rust removal, pH control in water treatment, and food acidification. Density 1.18 g/cm³ (37% solution), boiling point 84°C (20%), melting point -114°C, vapor pressure 190 mmHg at 25°C; highly soluble in water, pungent odor, produced by burning hydrogen in chlorine or as byproduct; strong mineral acid.
