Sodium Metasilicate (CAS 6834-92-0) is an inorganic sodium silicate salt that appears as a white granular powder, dissolves readily in water to form alkaline solutions, and is used as a builder in detergents, in water treatment, adhesives, fireproofing, and as a silica source in coatings, catalysts and cement formulations. Density 2.4 g/cm³, melting point 1089°C; highly soluble in water forming alkaline solutions (pH 12-13), insoluble in alcohols. Hygroscopic, it decomposes in acids releasing silica; produced by fusing sodium carbonate with silica.
