Yttrium Oxide (Y₂O₃; MW 225.81 g/mol) is a white, water-insoluble rare earth oxide with a melting point of 2 410 °C and a bulk density of 5.01 g/cm³. Commercially available in Technical and Electronic Grades, purity is expressed on a rare earth oxide basis as Y₂O₃/TREO, with typical specifications reaching 2N to 6N and TREO ≥ 99 %. Residual rare earth and other trace impurities are quantified at the ppm level.
The material is supplied as micronised powder (d50 1–2 µm), standard powder (d50 2–10 µm), nanopowder, ready-to-press granules, plasma-spray granules, and sputter targets. Its high melting point, chemical stability, and controlled particle size distribution make it a primary raw material across advanced ceramics, electronics, coatings, and energy applications.

Applications
- Electronics & Solar PV: Used as a plasma-chamber coating feedstock and sputter target material in semiconductor fabrication, providing erosion resistance in reactive plasma environments; also serves as a phosphor host matrix (Y₂O₃:Eu) in display and lighting applications.
- Aerospace & Defense: Functions as a key constituent in thermal barrier coating systems and as a plasma-spray feedstock for yttria-stabilised zirconia (YSZ) layers on turbine components.
- Building & Construction: Acts as a phase stabiliser in structural zirconia ceramics and as a sintering aid for silicon nitride and silicon carbide advanced ceramic bodies.
- Oil, Gas & Energy: Employed as a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) electrolyte raw material and as a stabilising additive in high-temperature refractory and energy-system ceramics.
- Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants & Elastomers: Incorporated into optical glass formulations as a refractive-index modifier and into high-performance coating matrices requiring elevated thermal and chemical resistance.
- Electronics & Solar PV: Applied in dental and precision structural zirconia components where controlled grain growth and phase stability are required during sintering.
Safety & Risks
GHS Warning. H315, H319, H320 (skin/eye irritation); H335 (respiratory irritation); H413 (aquatic, chronic). Avoid dust generation; ensure mechanical ventilation. Use P100 dust respirator, chemical splash goggles, and nitrile gloves. Store dry, away from incompatible oxidisers.
Packaging
